Tamworth Community Men's Shed

A Self Funded, Not-for-Profit Charity.

Tamworth Community Men’s shed was born when Bob Hopkins from Kincumber Men’s Shed was invited to address Tamworth Rotary Club in 2008. Following the efforts of a group of enthusiastic Tamworth men the Shed was finally registered as a Health Promotion Charity.

In December 2011, a piece of land in Victoria Park was leased from Tamworth Regional Council and the building of the shed commenced. Victoria Park is also home to the Botanic Gardens, Model Railway and the Astronomy and Science Centre.

It took until 2016 for the shed to throw open its doors for the first official day. Since then, the shed and it’s membership has continued to grow steadily and in 2018, moved to add more social activities commencing with a visit to Westpac Helicopter. A visit to the Scone Air Museum followed and in August the inaugural luncheon for the men and their partners was held.

By the end of2018, it was becomming evident that the shed was not big enough and an extension was muted. It wasn’t until 2021 that work finally started, thanks to a grant from the NSW Government. The extension was officially opened in 2024.

We are now fully operational with carpentry, furniture restoration, pallet furniture making and metal work. We also have a room dedicated to laser engraving and 3D printing.

The Shed is run totally by volunteers, is self sufficient and administered by a seven man committee.

Our primary focus is on Men’s physical and mental health, this is achieved by giving men a place to come, talk, make friend and participate in projects in a safe, friendly environment.
